Dear Friends,

I hope this note finds you and your family faring well during these unprecedented times. What a strange year 2020 has been so far! Usually this time of year finds us busy planning our Kick-Off Reception while eagerly anticipating our Shortbread Sale and Holiday Books and Coffee.

Well, like everything else “2020” we are finding the need to pivot and react to our current circumstances. Like many other universities, Queens has begun their school year virtually. That means students and faculty are teaching and learning remotely with no on-campus activities or gatherings. Given this situation, the FOL Board has made the difficult decision to suspend all in-person events through the spring of 2021.

That does not mean there will be no events! That means like everything else this year; we’re moving online. Our amazing board members are working hard to come up with creative and fun ways to stay connected with virtual events, author talks and member book reviews! Make sure to follow FOL on our social media platforms Instagram and Facebook.

As we will not be having in-person events, we have decided not to charge membership dues for this year. We are still financially supporting Everett Library with a donation of $40,000 so if you like and are able, please consider making a one-time, tax-deductible donation in lieu of your membership dues. The library staff is working extra hard to support the students and faculty during this year of online learning.

2020 is FOL’s 50th year at Queens!  As we hit pause on events this year we hope you will stay with us and join us next year as we celebrate 50 +1 !!!
