Figshare is free for researchers to use, and their uploaded content is also free for others to access and view.
It offers tools for organizing, managing, and storing research outputs, including data of various types and sizes.

The Harvard Dataverse Repository is a free data repository open to all researchers from any discipline, both inside and outside of the Harvard community, where you can share, archive, cite, access, and explore research data. Each individual Dataverse collection is a customizable collection of datasets (or a virtual repository) for organizing, managing, and showcasing datasets.

You can open your data to the general public, or restrict access and define customizable terms of use. When you publish your data, you automatically get a standard data citation with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), and your metadata is open and findable via search engines, even when the data are restricted.

Many researchers use re3data to identify the most appropriate and impactful repositories to deposit their data. Funders and publishers can use re3data to guide investigators and authors to repositories to meet their requirements for sharing the data that support grant-funded research and publications. Librarians and teachers can use re3data to help patrons and students locate data repositories to support their teaching, learning, and research and to promote data literacy. Other tools and service providers such as DataCite integrate with re3data to integrate information about data repositories into scholarly workflows.

You can search and filter data repositories by certification, metadata standards, and any combination of over two dozen facets. Results are displayed with icons that make it easy to quickly identify repositories by common features such as those providing open access, persistent identifiers, or data licenses.

re3data shares all of its metadata as open data without restriction using Creative Commons Zero, and it provides an open application programming interface (API) and other protocols to encourage sharing and integration. Its records are available as XML, structured by our schema that is maintained and regularly updated with community input.

We encourage the community to submit new data repositories to be indexed by re3data and to suggest corrections and improvements for existing records.

Overall direction for the registry is provided by the re3data Working Group, and the schema and contents of the registry are curated by the re3data Editorial Board. The registry is managed and operated by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Purdue University Libraries.
