The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission (HLC) is an agency of Mecklenburg County and for budgetary purposes is a component of the County’s Assess and Facilities Management Department. The HLC has 12 members. The Board of County Commissioners appoints 6 members.

The Charlotte Museum of History is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that engages and educates a broad public audience in the exploration of the history of the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Region through the stories of its people, ideas, and events in order to promote dialogue and historical perspective.

The Charlotte Regional History Consortium is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and interpreting the history of the Charlotte Region through cooperation among the region's history organizations and interest groups.
