OER in Health Science

The following are curated collections specific to subject areas in health science. This is not an exhaustive list, and you can also search for subject-specific OER in the search platforms on the Find Open Educational Resources page.

General Health Sciences

  • Health Education Assets Library (HEAL)
    • Housed at the Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah
    • 22,000+ digital images and materials for health sciences education
  • Health Sciences - MERLOT II
    • Includes case studies, animations, simulations, online courses and modules, textbooks and journal articles, tutorials, quizzes, and more
    • Filter by type, peer-review, discipline, and more
  • Health & Medicine - OER Commons
    • A large repository that includes all kinds of Open Educational Resources. Use the search limiters to narrow by education level, material type (i.e. Textbooks) and subject.
  • Medicine Textbooks - Open Textbook Library
    • Complete textbooks that have been reviewed by a variety of college and university faculty, and can be downloaded for no cost, or printed at low cost. All textbooks are either used at multiple higher education institutions; or affiliated with an institution, scholarly society, or professional organization.

Nursing

    • Department of Education grant-funded project to create 5 OER nursing textbooks with 25 associated virtual reality scenarios
  • George Washington University School of Nursing OER
    • Interactive multimedia learning materials developed from US Health Resources & Services Administration grant-funded projects
  • BC Campus Open Textbooks - Nursing
    • From the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training and the Hewlett Foundation
    • Filter searches for items that are peer-reviewed and/or adopted
