For Faculty

A guide for Everett Library services for Queens faculty

We are here for you.

Resources for Faculty

These resources are for you as a researcher and instructor. Cabells Predatory Reports will help you identify and avoid predatory journals, which charge article processing fees without providing quality publishing services.

Credo and CQ Researcher are good interdisciplinary databases to share with your students when they need background information on a topic.

Our eBooks, Audiobooks, and Streaming Videos collection and our guide to Open Educational Resources (OER) can help you find instructional content that is free for students.

Library Instruction

The librarians of Everett Library are dedicated to providing research instruction to the faculty, students, and staff of Queens University of Charlotte.

To request an in-class library instruction session please to complete the Library Instruction Request Form or contact your Library Liaison.

Request library class instruction

NOTE: Please allow at least two weeks' advance notice for any in-class instruction request. Also, you will need to be present during your in-class library instruction session.

Research Guide Request

Research guides are websites that allow librarians to design interactive, online handouts for courses. Each research guide is custom created based on the course assignments and topics. They include links to the most appropriate library resources for each assignment.

If you would like to have a research guide designed for your class, please allow 2 weeks' notice before you need the guide. Email your Library Liaison for more information or to request a research guide.

Reserves

To place books or videos on reserve for your students, please complete the Everett Library Reserve Form.

If you are placing personal copies on reserve, please bring those copies to the Help Desk in Everett Library and indicate that they are to be placed on reserve.

  • Please note that the Library cannot be held responsible for any personal materials lost while placed on reserve.
  • Students may check out reserve materials for 2 hours. Reserves may not be taken out of the library.

Personal books and videos placed on reserve will be returned to faculty members at the end of each semester. Faculty may also pick up their reserve materials at any time by asking a library staff member.

For questions or concerns about Reserves, please contact Katie Ervin.

Recommend a Purchase

The selection of information pieces for Everett Library must be viewed within the context of the mission of Queens University of Charlotte and Everett Library. Ultimately, the development and maintenance of the collection of Everett Library lies with the University Librarian. Faculty input is vital to the selection of appropriate materials for inclusion in the Everett Library collection, and Library faculty accept requests for information pieces which may be seen as particularly relevant to a specific class or subject need.

The appropriateness of content to support the academic curriculum of Queens University of Charlotte is the major criteria for evaluating a potential item for inclusion in the collection. Additionally, five factors may also be considered in the purchase of an information piece including:

(a) Lasting value of the content;
(b) Strength of the present holdings in the subject area or related areas;
(c) Cost;
(d) Type of format and strength of content;
(e) Value of author or reputation of publisher.

The library will consider the acquisition of materials in a variety of formats—print, electronic, and digital. Existing hardware, software, and other library equipment will be considered when selecting materials.

To recommend a purchase, contact Sherrill Shiraz.
