Student Employee Training

The purpose of this guide is to inform student workers of their duties and responsibilities as library assistants

Inter-Library Loan

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Queens students, staff, and faculty may request scholarly material (articles and print books) not available in our library collections by utilizing the Interlibrary Loan Cooperative Program. Everett Library both borrows from and lends materials to other libraries in this program. In general, only items from the circulating collection are available for interlibrary loan. Reference, media, special collections/archives, and any circulated items deemed too fragile for transport are not available for loan.

The Access Services Librarian is responsible for managing the Inter-Library Loan system.  All patron inquiries regarding ILL can be directed to them.

ILL

How are Student Workers Involved in ILL?

  • Student workers may be asked to deliver packages from Everett Library and/or pick up ILL from the Queens Post Office.
  • Student workers may get questions from patrons about how our ILL systems works and how they can submit a request for ILL.  You can direct them to the ILL page on our website or directly to the ILL Request Form.
  • Patrons may come to the front desk to pick up items they requested from ILL.  These items will be located on the book shelf behind the circulation desk, and organized by patron last name.
  1. When patrons check out these items you must have them sign the form that is inserted in the book.

  1. Tell the patron when the item is due. (This should be highlighted on the cover sheet.)

  1. Tell the patron not to remove the white slip that is covering the book.

  1. When patrons return the item, please bring it to the Access Services Librarian or place it on the top shelf of the same bookshelf.
