Printing

The most common questions you will get while manning the front desk are related to printing.

All students get $21 on their queens account every semester. This equals 300 black and white prints per semester. Black and white prints cost 7 cents and color prints cost 21 cents each.

  • Students need to send their jobs to the follow-me-printer to print.
  • Students can login to our computers and access their documents and sent it to the follow me printer.
  • Students can also print from their phones if they are on Queens wifi
  • Students can download the follow-me-printer software to their laptops and print directly from their laptops. To download the software they can go to the IT helpdesk page, found on the my.queeens.edu page and search follow-me-printer. They can also ask for help from the chat on the IT help page to download the software if needed.
  • To print in color, patrons need to go to the advanced set up or advanced preferences page to change to color. Just changing to color from the first set of preferences usually does not work. When assisting patrons, you can always know if it printed in color by the amount charged for each job: 7 cents vs 21 cents.

Troubleshooting

* Make sure the patron is correctly logged in to the library computer. The person logged in must be the same as the person on the qcard. They may believe they are logged in but they may have sat down where someone else had logged in. Go to the windows icon and then to change account settings to verify if that person is logged in to the computer.

* Check the number of pages in the document. Students are not allowed to print more than 50 pages at a time. Have them try printing 1-40 and then 41-80 for example. Break up the number of pages into smaller groups.

* The follow-me-printer may not be selected for the print job.

* If printing from their laptop, it may say hold for authentication, that means something is wrong with their password in their setup. They need to change the user ID and password to their correct Queens User id and password. They may need to ask IT for help with this.
