What is an Emergency?

An emergency is any situation in which you feel that your own safety or the safety of another person is threatened.

An emergency could look like, but is not limited to the following examples:

  • A suspicious package being delivered to or left at the library
  • A threatening or vulgar phone call
  • An unruly or violent patron
  • A medical emergency such a heart attack, seizure, etc.
  • The presence of a firearm (firearms of any kind are prohibited on campus grounds)
  • A fire inside the library

Any time you feel unsafe, call campus police!

In Case of Emergency...

1. SOUND THE ALARM

Call 911 first if there is an serious emergency in the library. This includes fire, injury, illness, or violence.

Then call campus police.

We also have a silent alarm button at the front desk. If you need to call for help secretly and immediately, you can press that to alert campus police to come to the library.

2. GET TO SAFETY

Then, do whatever you have to do to get yourself to safety.

If you need to exit the building, there are two emergency exits in the basement, in addition to the front doors on the main floor.

Work through the dropdown pages under the "Emergency Procedures" tab to learn about how to handle specific emergency events.
